This Week’s Readings

Happy Monday, all! A quick update: last week, InDigest nominated my story Disease for a Pushcart Prize! That totally made my day. I know it’s a large pool, but still, cool to be a nominee. In reading news, I’m currently flying through Wuthering Heights. How have I not read this classic up until now?? It’s one of those timeless stories (like The Good Soldier) whose social intrigues could easily be translated to today. Plus, the characters are just totally nuts.
Read on for my top lit picks o’ the week, which include Colson Whitehead, Jim Shepard, Miranda July and Umberto Eco.
MONDAY: Electric Lit presents Colson Whitehead (Zone One) and Jim Shepard (You Think That’s Bad) at Franklin Park Bar, along with promises of dancing and frolicking!
TUESDAY: Miranda July AND Umberto Eco on one night? Now that’s awkward dinner party pairing I’d like to see. Miranda will read from her newest, It Chooses You, about her Miranda July-ish attempts to track down people from the classifieds. And Umberto will discuss his latest novel, The Prague Cemetery.
WEDNESDAY: The Moth StorySLAM! A must-see multi-city literary institution I’ve been meaning to check out.
THURSDAY: Michael Ondaatje (The English Patient) will read from his newest, The Cat’s Table.
FRIDAY: Elissa Schappell (Blueprints for Building Better Girls) and Helen Schulman (This Beautiful Life) will chat with Darrin Strauss.-
